The military has released video showing the moments just before a a C-17 crashed. Four people were killed in the July incident in Alaska. A pilot’s overly aggressive maneuvering and overconfidence were blamed in an investigative report.
The video of the flight path just before the crash without the actual crash has a bunch of YouTube viewers upset. It is unknown if the military censored the impact of if Associated Press censored the impact of the $184 million plane that crashed during a training demonstration for an air show.
Besides pilot error of overly aggressive maneuvering, the crew on board was also faulted for failing to notice the dangerous situation that culminated with the plane stalling and crashing into some woods and damaging a main track of Alaska Railroad July 28 at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson.
“The mishap pilot violated regulatory provisions and multiple flight manual procedures, placing the aircraft outside established flight parameters at an attitude and altitude where recovery was not possible,” according to an investigative report.
Killed were Maj. Michael Freyholtz, 34, of Hines, Minn.; Maj. Aaron Malone, 36, of Anchorage; Capt. Jeffrey Hill, 31, of York, Pa., and Master Sgt. Thomas Cicardo, 47, of Anchorage. The military is not releasing information regarding which pilot was in control of the aircraft. Master Sgt. Thomas Cicardo, however was not a pilot.
