The House Foreign Affairs Committee held a roundtable with Gold Star families on August 29, 2023 to discuss the Abbey Gate terrorist attack in Afghanistan.
The meeting was held at 1:00 PM in the Longworth House Office Building.
House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul announced on August 23, 2023 the full committee will hold a roundtable discussion with some of the family members of the U.S. service members killed in the terrorist attack at the Hamid Karzai International Airport (HKIA)’s Abbey Gate on August 26, 2021. The attack happened during the emergency evacuation from Afghanistan following the Taliban seizing control of the country on August 15, 2021. Thirteen U.S. servicemembers were killed and 45 more were wounded in the attack, making it the deadliest day for U.S. servicemembers in Afghanistan since 2011.
