Muammar Gaddafi forces bombarded the rebel-held city of Misurata on Friday after they claimed a cease fire in response to threats of a United Nations resolution to use military force to suppress Gaddafi forces. Foreign Minister Moussa Koussa said Libya had decided to halt all military operations to protect civilians and comply with a United Nations resolution passed overnight.
In reality government tanks were surrounding Misurata and shelling mosques, schools and residential buildings. Rebels belief Gaddafi’s forces want to take hold and embed in Misurata before U.N. forces arrive, so that a more difficult job of urban warfare would be the task in fighting Gaddafi forces.
At least 25 people, including civilians, have been killed.
